Our Team

How we check facts

The checks are deliberately mechanical, because memory lies and press releases drift. Licence status is verified against the UKGC public register at every quarterly review. Operator legal name and company number are verified against Companies House. Bonus terms are quoted from the terms as they stood on the day we tested them, with a visible date on the page.

When the operator changes a term, we update the page and leave a dated note at the foot of the section. We do not delete the previous version silently; readers who linked to the old number deserve to see what has changed.

Author cards

Freya Lambert — Senior editor, with the desk since launch. Covers bonuses and operator relations. Previously staff writer at a national gambling trade title; NCTJ-qualified.

Paul Hearn — Reviewer, payments. Six years in UK consumer finance before moving to gambling-sector reviews. Owns the payments tests and the cashier walkthroughs.

Jenny McGrath — Reviewer, games. Ex-bingo-caller for one of the major UK operators; now covers room schedules, Slingo and slot additions.

Dev Kaur — Compliance reader. Qualified solicitor; reviews every money page against UKGC advertising guidance.

Contact editor

The desk reads every message sent to [email protected]. Corrections — a fact that has moved, a term that has changed, a hall that has closed — go to the top of the queue and are usually actioned the same day.

Longer messages that require a conversation are routed to whoever owns the relevant area: payments questions to Paul, games questions to Jenny, compliance questions to Dev. If you would rather reach a specific person by name, say so in the subject line and we will route accordingly.

Join us

The desk is small and hiring is irregular, but we always read speculative messages from UK writers with a gambling-sector background. A good first message includes two paragraphs on something you believe the UK bingo market gets wrong, and a link to one published piece of your own.

We can't offer freelance commissions for one-off reviews — the editorial process requires continuity — but we do commission occasional long-form features on hall history, the regulated-market timeline, and the arithmetic of common room formats. Write to [email protected] with 'pitch' in the subject line.

Roles

The desk has four roles. Senior editor (Freya Lambert) sets the publishing schedule, approves money pages, and handles the external relationship with the operator. Reviewer-payments owns the cashier tests and keeps the deposit-and-withdrawal tables accurate. Reviewer-games owns the lobby — Slingo tiles, slot additions, bingo-room schedules and jackpot updates. Compliance reader checks every money page against the UK Gambling Commission's advertising guidance and against our own disclosure rules.

Roles rotate once a year to prevent a single reviewer becoming too close to one part of the operator's product.

How we work

The weekly rhythm is straightforward. Monday is for payments testing — one editor opens the operator's cashier with a small balance, deposits with a different method each week, and times the deposit and withdrawal. Tuesday and Wednesday are for bonus audits — reading the terms that attach to the current welcome offer and spot-checking any changes. Thursday is for hall and schedule updates. Friday is reserved for reader correspondence and corrections.

Nothing goes live without a second read. Every money page is reviewed by at least two people before publication; corrections are logged and dated at the foot of the affected page.
